STEP 1 Create Device Manager Shortcut
• on the windows desktop, right click>select new>shortcut
• dialogue box will pop up, type in devmgmt.msc>return>return
STEP 2 Load Cable Driver
• install cd into CDROM drive
• connect cable to USB port on your PC
• When New Hardware Wizard launches cancel out of loading driver.
• My Computer > D: (or drive CD is in) > select CDM20824_Setup> once pop up window says Driver install success > close out windows.
• COM Port setting:
◦ Open the devmgmt shortcut > click Ports (COM & LPT) > select USB Cable > port settings > advanced >USB Serial Port settings , this may show COM 8 or some other setting , You have to set to COM1 , click advanced > select COM 1 > OK

STEP 3 Load YDS (NOT INCLUDED WITH LISTING/SALE)
• Install the YDS program from the cd.
• click on the icon and again follow your installation wizard
• the program should load quickly and easily!!
• Once loaded launch YDS to main menu and select option F1, update database.
• This will take a second or two.

STEP 4 Connecting to Ski /Outboard/Engine
• to gain access to the diagnostic connector in Yamaha Watercraft you look in the front hatch , on most models you have to remove the white plastic bulkhead to gain access to the wiring area under the handlebars , press in the center of the white clips 4-5 mm and this will allow them to be removed be careful with them and you can reuse them to refit the panel!!!
• In the bunch of wires under the handlebars you will find a grey 3 pin connector (shown) , one side is from the main wiring harness and the other side goes to the instrument cluster, this can be confirmed by the wire colors of: RED / WHITE-BLACK / BLACK
• to connect YDS you have to unplug the instrument cluster and plug in the YDS connector to the wiring harness here.
• To check you are hooked up correctly connect the lanyard and just briefly 'bump' the start button , you will hear the systems on the ski power up and you should see the blue 'power' lamp on the interface illuminate , the ski/Outboard will automatically power down after 5-10 seconds.
• Open the YDS program , you will see the YAMAHA logo
• Bump the ski or turn the key on the outboard to engage the starter but DO NOT START THE ENGINE WITHOUT WATER HOOKED UP FOR COOLING.
• Within 10 seconds, press return on the laptop keyboard TWICE to establish communication between the YDS on the laptop and the ECM on the motor.
ERROR Messages and Solutions:
• if you get an error message such as "ECM cannot communicate...." while trying to initial comms with your yamaha ski or outboard; repeat the COM1 selection above.
• If you get a database not found error, install the CD, open YDS and then selection the option to update the database.
